Mexican Premiere of Joseph Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra

On April 22, the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, led by conductor Sylvain Gasançon, will present the Mexican premiere of Joseph Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Legendary percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie will be the featured soloist. The concert celebrates the 75th anniversaries of the Anglo Mexican Foundation and of the British Council in Mexico. Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra is one of the composer's best-loved works, having clocked over 100 performances throughout the world since its world premiere by the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Leonard Slatkin with soloist Christopher Lamb. A version of the work for percussion and wind ensemble was made by Andrew Boysten Jr. in 1997, and this arrangement has been particularly popular with collegiate ensembles and wind orchestras alike.
