Marcel Chyrzyński's Mojave Premiered in Los Angeles
Mar. 10, 2022
Espen Nystog Aas (clarinet), Jan Kalinowski (cello), Zoe Beyler (percussion) and Marek Szlezer (piano) peform the world premiere of Marcel Chyrzyński's Mojave on March 28 in Alfred Newman Recital Hall at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The composer describes the work:
"In 2017, after my monographic concert organized by the Polish Music Center in Los Angeles, I borrowed a car and drove to Las Vegas. However, I did not take the fastest and most frequently used interstate highway, but an old scenic road recommended by a friend through the Mojave Desert, of which the famous Route 66 is a part. The Mojave Desert made an amazing impression on me. I have stopped many times to soak up its charms: the vastness of space, the straight path to the horizon, rocks, mountains, sand dunes, the Union Pacific train passing nearby, the bent shoots of Joshua trees... This piece is an attempt to reflect the atmosphere of this desert and the feelings that accompanied me then."
