Lyric Opera of Chicago Presents Gregory Spears and Kathryn Walat's Jason and the Argonauts as Part of their "Opera in the Neighborhoods" Program

Lyric Opera of Chicago's "Opera in the Neighborhoods" program is in the midst of a city-wide live performance tour of Gregory Spears and Kathryn Walat's Jason and the Argonauts, bringing the opera to an audience of nearly 3000 students in grades 3-6 at school and neighborhood venues throughout the Chicago area. The tour will culminate with two public performances at Chicago's Vittum Theater on October 21. 

Jason and the Argonauts, commissioned by the Lyric Opera of Chicago and premiered by the company at the Vittum Theater in 2016, brings to life the ancient myth of Jason and his friends the Argonauts as they search for the Golden Fleece. The timeless tale takes the characters on a series of harrowing adventures that ultimately teach them about courage, triumph and heroism.

"Opera has the power to captivate and inspire young audiences, and this production beautifully combines the magic of ancient Greek mythology with modern themes. Our goal is simply to provide access to the arts for as many audiences as possible and, perhaps, cultivate the next generation of arts enthusiasts."
