Lei Liang, Annie Gosfield, and Wang Lu Win Honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters
Mar. 01, 2021
Schott Music is delighted to announce that Lei Liang has been awarded a 2021 Goddard Lieberson Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Two Goddard Lieberson Fellowships of $15,000 are given annually to young composers of extraordinary gifts. The CBS Foundation endowed the fellowships in 1978 in memory of the late president of CBS Records. While the Academy cannot host its annual Ceremonial in person this year, they will do so in a virtual event on May 19, 2021.
Schott Music has published Lei Liang's music exclusively worldwide since 2011. Norman Ryan, Vice President for Composers and Repertoire, states: "We send our hearty congratulations to Lei Liang on being awarded the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. This honor follows close on the heels of Lei Liang's Grawemeyer Award win for his brilliant orchestral work A Thousand Mountains, A Million Streams. Lei Liang's richly expressive compositional voice reflects the depth and diversity of human experience and his music never ceases to surprise us with its sophisticated synthesis of compositional techniques and natural phenomena. All of us at Schott Music are deeply proud of Lei and thrilled that he has been recognized with this latest accolade."

In addition, PSNY composers Annie Gosfield and Wang Lu also received honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters this year. Annie Gosfield, a Lecturer in Music at Columbia University, received a $10,000 Arts and Letters Award in Music. This award honors outstanding artistic achievement and acknowledges composers who have arrived at their own voice. Winners each receive an additional $10,000 to record their work and will also have their music presented in a concert at the Academy in the spring of 2022.
