Kamran Ince at Kennesaw State University’s Festival of New Music; World Premiere of <em>The Crying Wall</em> in Ankara, Turkey

The music of Kamran Ince is featured in March at the Kennesaw State University’s Festival of New Music. On March 17, the University presents performances of Ince’s Before Infrared, for orchestra, and Flight Box, for ensemble, led by Dr. Nathaniel Parker at the Bailey Performance Center in Kennesaw, GA.

On April 13, cellist Rahsan Apay joins the Hacettepe University Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, Turkey for the world premiere of Ince’s The Crying Wall for solo cello and string orchestra. Apay gives a repeat performance of the work with the CRR Symphony Orchestra at the CRR Concert Hall in Ankara, Turkey on May 3. Of The Crying Wall, Ince writes:

Imagine a cellist pulling up a chair in front of the Crying Wall in Jerusalem and starting to play. I imagine the cello as a woman: talking, reasoning, screaming, pleading, praying to the wall, at times calm, angry, questioning, accepting, thankful, whispering, pleading, rebelling, screaming… No matter what she does, there is a quietness of being in the depth of everything. The work is an important departure point for me as I make extensive use of quarter-tones in both the solo cello and orchestra.

Earlier this season, Milwaukee’s Present Music performed Ince’s Curve for string quartet on February 25, and Philadelphia’s Relâche Ensemble gave a performance of Turquoise and Strange Stone on February 27 as part of the Penn Museum’s “The Golden Age of King Midas” exhibit.
