Jörg Widmann's ...umdüstert... in US Premiere by Boston Musica Viva
Oct. 04, 2007
In their "Made in Germany II" concert on October 5, Boston Musica Viva presents the US premiere of Jörg Widmann's work for chamber ensemble ...umdüstert.... In exploring the music of contemporary Germany, Boston Musica Viva Music Director Richard Pittman seeks to help broaden the exposure of Widmann's music, insisting Widmann "needs to be better known in the US."
Indeed, while Widmann is not yet a household name in the United States, in his young career he has become one of the most prolific composers in Europe, composing in all genres, winning numerous awards, and having Opernwelt name his opera Das Gesicht in der Spiegel the most important world premiere of the 2003/04 season. Among Widmann's current commissions is perhaps more evidence of his rising star in America as Yefim Bronfman will give the premiere of a new piano work at Carnegie Hall in New York this December.
Boston Musica Viva performs Jörg Widmann's ...umdüstert... on October 5 at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University.
