Joseph Schwantner's <em>Luminosity</em> at WASBE and Beyond

Following the recent premiere of his new work for wind ensemble, Luminosity, Joseph Schwantner joins several universities for composer residencies and portrait concerts throughout the upcoming season. Before the season begins, Schwantner’s Luminosity receives a performance by the Lone Star Wind Orchestra as part of the 2015 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) conference. The performance takes place July 16 in San Jose, CA, conducted by Eugene Migliaro Corporon.  

Upcoming events in the 2015/2016 season include residencies at the University of South Carolina (September 20-21), Kennesaw State University (February 15-17), Louisiana State University (February 22,-24), University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (March 3-5), and University of Texas at Austin (April 27-May 1). Many of the residencies include performances of Luminosity, alongside classic Schwantner works including and the mountains rising nowhere, Sparrows, Concerto for Percussion, and New Morning for the World. 

Also on the horizon are two new recordings, together comprising Schwanter’s complete works for flute. Later this season, flutist Sarah Frisof releases a new album on Centaur Records featuring several works for flute and piano—Soaring, Looking Back, and a new arrangement of Two Poems of Agueda Pizzaro—as well as Taking Charge, for flute, piano and percussion. Also scheduled for release later this year is Jennie Oh Brown's new CD titled Flute Music of Joseph Schwantner on Innova Recordings, which includes recordings of Black Anemones, Soaring, Looking Back, and the flute quartet Silver Halo.
