Joseph Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto Wins A Grammy!

The Naxos recording of Joseph Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto took home the Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards on February 12. Featuring soloist Christopher Lamb playing alongside Giancarlo Guerrero and the Nashville Symphony, the performance is a masterful showcase of Schwantner’s thrilling landmark concerto: one of the most widely performed contemporary American orchestral works today. The recording was released on the Naxos album Joseph Schwantner: Chasing Light... alongside Schwantner's widely performed orchestral works Chasing Light… and Morning’s Embrace. Order your copy here.

Chasing Light…, Schwantner’s work commissioned for the 2008 Ford Made in America Commissioning Consortium, has been performed by an unprecedented 58 orchestras in all 50 states, tallying up over 70 performances in all. Commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra, Morning’s Embrace is a powerfully evocative work that draws its inspiration from the intensely vibrant early morning sunrises that the composer experiences in rural New Hampshire. Chasing Light... and Morning’s Embrace may be viewed as companion pieces, whith each employing an expanded ensemble that includes a variety of pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments along with amplified piano and harp.
