Joseph Schwantner in Residence at Temple University; <em>Percussion Concerto</em> with Hong Kong Philharmonic and Hochschul Sinfonie Orchester Stuttgart

Beginning on December 1, Temple University’s Boyer College of Music hosts Joseph Schwantner as composer-in-residence. In addition to a series of masterclasses and seminars, Schwantner receives performances of three major works throughout the week. On December 1, Temple University’s Contemporary Music Ensemble performs Schwantner’s Distant Runes and Incantations in its version for chamber ensemble, led by Jay Krush. On December 3, Emily Threinen conducts the Temple University Wind Ensemble in a performance of and the mountains rising nowhere and the wind ensemble arrangement of Movement II “In Memorian: Misterioso” from Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto, featuring percussionist Phillip O'Banion.

Also this month, the Percussion Concerto receives additional performances across the globe. On December 5 and 6 the Hong Kong Philharmonic performs the work as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of RTHK Radio 4. Lawrence Foster leads the orchestra along with soloist Li Biao. On December 19, Schwantner’s concerto is featured at the Hochschul Sinfonie Orchester Stuttgart, conducted by Sylvain Cambreling with percussionist Se-Mi Hwang.
