In Memoriam: Yuzo Toyama (1931-2023)

We are saddened to report the passing of renowned conductor and composer Yuzo Toyama at his home in Nagano, Japan on July 11, 2023. Toyama was 92. Funeral services were private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Toyama, born in 1931, was active throughout his life as a leading conductor and composer in post-war Japan. Rhapsody for Orchestra is one of his most prominent works and includes several Japanese folk songs. The composition continues to be performed in Japan and througout the world.

In addition to being a prolific composer, Toyama was a highly regarded conductor, holding important posts with orchestras all over Japan, including the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
