Huw Watkins's <em>Echo</em> Premieres at Carnegie Hall

Soprano Ruby Hughes joins pianist Julius Drake in the world premiere performance of Huw Watkins’s new song cycle Echo at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on October 13.

Watkins’s Echo, which was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Presteigne Festival, sets five poetic texts by Emily Dickinson, Christina Georgina Rossetti, William Butler Yeats, Philip Larkin and David Harsent. The work is Watkins’s fifth song cycle, following his Three Auden Songs (2008), Five Larkin Songs (2010), Look Down, Fair Moon (2011) and Four Sonnets (2014).

Listen to a recording of the first movement from Watkins’s Three Auden Songs, performed by tenor Mark Padmore and the composer on piano, available on NMC Recordings:
