Hub New Music Premieres Andrew Norman's Hubbubs at Yale's Schwarzman Center and Merkin Hall
Dec. 20, 2024
Hub New Music celebrated their tenth anniversary with a series of new commissions from a diverse group of composers including Andrew Norman who composed Hubbubs for the ensemble's world premiere performances of the work on December 4 at The Dome at Yale University's Schwarzman Center and December 5 in New York City at Merkin Hall as part of their "Artist as Curator" series. The eclectic program also featured new works by Angelica Negrón, Nico Muhly, Tyshawn Sorey, Jessica Meyer, and Donnacha Dennehy.
Hubbubs, written in celebration of Hub New Music's 10th anniversary, is an exploration of group dynamics and joyful noises. Cast in seven short movements, it charts a course of transformation from happy chaos to focused unanimity. The movements, "Hubbub I" through "Hubbub VII," were alternated with works by other composers throughout the course of the program, providing a unifying link between selections.
