Howard Shore and Ornette Coleman’s Naked Lunch at Lincoln Center Festival; US Premiere of Ruin and Memory at the Newport Contemporary Music Series

In 1991, a legendary musical collaboration was born through David Cronenberg’s film adaptation of William S. Burrough’s surrealist novel Naked Lunch, which brought together composer Howard Shore and jazz titan Ornette Coleman to develop the film’s score. This summer’s Lincoln Center Festival presents a live-to-projection performance of that score, with Brad Lubman conducting Ensemble Signal alongside saxophonists Ravi Coltrane and Henry Threadgill to conjure Coleman’s original solo parts. The event takes place at Alice Tully Hall on July 11 as part of the Festival’s multi-night exploration of Coleman’s career.

Also taking place this summer will be the US premiere of Shore’s piano concerto Ruin and Memory at the Newport Contemporary Music Series in Newport, RI. The performance takes place July 28 with soloist Aaron Likness joining the Newport Contemporary Arts Orchestra, led by Paul Van Anglen.
