Homage to Joaquín Rodrigo at the Internationales Gitarrenfestival Tübingen Competition

The 2023 Internationales Gitarrenfestival Tübingen Competition, held on January 28, was dedicated to the music of Joaquín Rodrigo with the required entry work being Rodrigo's "Fandango" from Tres Piezas Españolas. Finalists played Joaquín Rodrigo ́s Toccata, or “Pasaccaglia” (from Tres Piezas Españolas) or Invocación y Danza as well as free choice repertoire. Winners of the competition are:

First prize: Pavle Filipovic (Serbia) who performed "Passacaglia" and "Zapateado" from Tres piezas españolas

Second prize: Tim Jurkovich (Slovenia) who performed Toccata

Third prize: Gemma Caro Torralba (Spain) who performed Invocación y Danza

Manuel Barrueco performs Joaquín Rodrigo's "Passacaglia" from Tres Piezas Españolas

Earlier this month, Rodrigo's beloved Concierto de Aranjuez was performed by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and harpist Sun Shimeng, under the baton of Xia Xiaotang. The performance ushered in the new year on January 1 and took place at Beijing's Forbidden City Concert Hall as part of their New Year's Concert Series.
