Handel in Halle with Agrippina, Clori, Tirsi e Fileno, Israel in Egypt, and Amadigi di Gaula
Jun. 30, 2025
The Handel Festival Halle took place from June 6-15 with top ensembles and a varied program. It included four productions featuring the Halle Handel Editions published by Bärenreiter. On June 6, Agrippina received its first performance in a new production by Walter Sutcliffe in the Halle Opera. The conductor was the Handel specialist Laurence Cummings. Agrippina tells the story handed down through history of the titular heroine, who, after the presumed death of her husband, the Roman Emperor Claudio, endeavors by all means available to win the imperial throne for her son Nero. The staged cantata, Clori, Tirsi e Fileno was performed as a dance production in the Goethe-Theater Bad Lauchstädt with choreography by Alberto Pagani. The sumptuously-scored work was conducted by Michael Hofstetter on June 14 with the Baroque Orchestra of the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra of Gotha-Eisenach. In addition, Israel in Egypt was performed on June 10 and Amadigi di Gaula on June 12 in the Halle Opera.
