Watch Party at Guerilla Opera for Hannah Lash's Beowulf

On July 23, Guerilla Opera will host a watch party for Hannah Lash's Beowulf. In this adaptation of the well-known epic poem, Beowulf is a doctor caring for his elderly mother while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder caused by his service as an army doctor in a war zone. He discovers that his mother is being abused by the nursing home staff and removes her, determined to care for her himself, though she begs him to help end her life. The piece explores through its intricate score and naturalistic vocal writing the psychological stresses placed upon those engaged in end of life care. Beowulf was commissioned for and produced by Guerilla Opera in 2016 in partnership with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and was supported by an OPERA America Female Composers Discovery Grant.
