Gregory Spears's Jason and the Argonauts Debuts at Lyric Opera of Chicago
Jul. 10, 2016

Following the successful premiere of his Fellow Travelers at Cincinnati Opera earlier this summer, Gregory Spears’s new opera for young people—Jason and the Argonauts—receives its debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on August 20, presented by the company’s Lyric Unlimited series.
Jason and the Argonauts, commissioned by the Lyric Opera of Chicago and with a libretto by Kathryn Walat, brings to life the ancient myth of Jason and his friends the Argonauts as they search for the Golden Fleece. The timeless tale takes the characters on a series of harrowing adventures that ultimately teach them about courage, triumph and heroism.
The world premiere performances take place at the Vittum Theater in Chicago and feature Kyle Knapp, Amy Kuckelman, Peter Morgan and Vince Wallace in principal roles. Loren Meeker directs the production, with set design by Joe Schermoly and costumes by Theresa Ham.
Details on the performances can be found at lyricopera.org.
