Grażyna Bacewicz's Concerto for String Orchestra at the Donatella Flick – London Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition

December 2 marked the start of the 18th edition of one of Europe's most prestigious conducting competitions: the Donatella Flick – London Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition. This year, Grażyna Bacewicz's Concerto for String Orchestra was among the repertoire as an obligatory piece in the first round.
Twenty young conductors from various European countries presented their artistic skills while working with the LSO. Half of the candidates advanced to the second stage, while only three remained in the final which concluded on December 4. The winner will receive a prize of £15,000 and the opportunity to serve as assistant conductor of the LSO for one season.
Sir Antonio Pappano, chairman of the jury, recommended Grażyna Bacewicz's Concerto for String Orchestra for this year's repertoire. As part of the Competition's collaboration with the PWM Edition, the jury members received dedicated scores of the Bacewicz Concerto.
The eighteenth Donatella Flick – London Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition was filmed for a new Sky Arts series titled "Making A Maestro, "which will be broadcast in spring 2026, and the winner of the competition will be revealed in the final episode of this series. Stay tuned for more!
