Anne Dudley and Steven Isserlis Reinvent <em>Goldiepegs and the Three Cellos</em>

“Once upon a time there was a lovely little violin who lived on the edge of a forest…”

"[I've] been writing a bit," muses cellist Steven Isserlis in his blog. That writing led to a collaboration with composer Anne Dudley and resulted in the thrilling 2009 children’s piece Goldiepegs and the Three Cellos. Featuring texts by Isserlis and originally written for narrator, violin, three cellos and piano, a new Goldiepegs string orchestra version bows on February 11 with Isserlis leading Italy's Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto.

Isserlis continues:

I fell in love [with] composer Anne Dudley’s music for the Stephen Fry/Hugh Laurie Jeeves and Wooster series ages ago. She and I now have a fun project together: I write musical stories for children (invariably co-starring a cello, needless to say) and she sets them to music…

Loosely based on the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Isserlis’ 20-minute story takes listeners on a magical and humorous journey into the world of fairy tales, a strict mother, and a family of cellos.
