Gerald Barry Joins Schott

We are delighted to announce that Schott Music is now the publisher of the distinguished Irish composer Gerald Barry. Born in Ireland in 1952, Barry was a composition student of Stockhausen and Kagel. He has received numerous commissions from the BBC and his operas in particular have enjoyed worldwide success with performances at the Aldeburgh Festival, Berliner Festwochen, and in London, Los Angeles, Paris (Présences Festival), Amsterdam, Basel and New York.
His music is available on recordings from NMC, Largo, Black Box, Marco Polo and Challenge. Gerald Barry's future projects include a chamber opera, The Importanceof Being Earnest, a joint commission between Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Barbican Centre in London (2011/12), Feldman's Six-Penny Editions for the London Sinfonietta and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (2011) and, first up, Schott &Sons, Mainz,a co-commission from the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Ars Nova Copenhagen and Coro Casa da Musica Porto. An account of Beethoven's relationship with Schott during the last three years of his life, Schott& Sons, Mainz sees its premiere on October 28, 2010 by the National Chamber Choir of Ireland conducted by Paul Hillier at the National Art Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.
