Georg Friedrich Handel's Saul with Tafelmusik
Jan. 24, 2014

The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir perform Georg Friedrich Handel’s oratorio Saul with a powerful cast of soloists at Koerner Hall in Toronto, Ontario this month. Tafelmusik director Ivars Taurins leads the ensemble, with sopranos Joanne Lunn and Sherezade Panthaki, countertenor Daniel Taylor, tenor Rufus Müller and baritone Peter Harvey. Performances take place on February 21, 22 and 23, with pre-concert lectures by Larry Beckwith.
Performance material for Saul, as well as scores and critical commentary, are available as part of the Halle Handel Edition – the complete critical edition of the works of Handel. Edited by the Georg Friedrich Handel Society, the edition draws on the latest musicological findings to serve the needs of both performers and scholars. The edition includes alternative versions, discarded sections, as well as original drafts and fragments. Since 1991, the volumes comprising oratorios, large cantatas, and operas also include the printed libretto of the first performance in facsimile. Instructive examples of the source material, in facsimile, and critical reports are also included in each volume.
Details on the Halle Handel Edition, including purchase, rental, and subscription information, can be found at www.baerenreiter.com.
