Fazil Say's 1,001 Nights in a Harem in World Premiere by John Axelrod and Lucerne Symphony Orchestra
Jan. 31, 2008
Fazil Say sees the world premiere of his violin concerto 1,001 Nights in a Harem by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra featuring violinist Patricia Kopachinskaya under the direction of John Axelrod on Wednesday, February 20. Known for his talent as both a composer and pianist, Say often creates extremely demanding and very individual solo piano roles for his large scale works and has relished performing the pieces. The composer is now ready to relinquish the piano from the limelight and has written his first violin concerto for violinist Patricia Kopachinskaya. In this piece, Say dares to bridge the gap between the music of his native Turkey and European art music in a completely new way.
