David Sawer's Rumpelstiltskin Ballet Begins Tour of UK

On November 14 the world premiere tour of David Sawer's ballet Rumpelstiltskin opens with two performances at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Centre in Birmingham, UK. In Rumpelstiltskin, David Sawer collaborates with director Richard Jones and designer Stewart Laing to re-tell the familiar Brothers Grimm tale about greed and come-uppance in a completely new way using dance, action and music alone.

Performed by six dancers and featuring Martyn Brabbins leading the 14 players of the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, which commissioned the work, Rumpelstiltskin takes a fresh look at the age-old themes of transformation, ritual and revelation. Three further performances are scheduled this month at Tramway, Glasgow on November 20 and 21; and at Bates Mill on November 22, as part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
