Dane Lam and the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Premiere Huang Ruo's The Grand Song

The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Dane Lam, performed the world premiere of Huang Ruo's The Grand Song, which was commissioned by the orchestra, on February 11 at the Hawaii Theater in Honolulu. The Grand Song was performed alongside Tan Dun's Crouching Tiger Concerto featuring cellist Mark Votapek, and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, featuring tenor Warren Mok and mezzo-soprano Stacey Rishoi.

Additionally, selections from Huang Ruo's Folk Songs for Orchestra have received multiple performances this month: The New Jersey Symphony and conductor Yue Bao performed selections from the work at the NJPAC as part of their 2024 Lunar New Year Celebration Concert on February 3, followed by performances on February 13 by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Naomi Woo at Roy Thomson Hall and on February 17 by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and conductor Mei-Ann Chen for their Lunar New Year Concert at Davies Symphony Hall.
