Christopher Cerrone's Invisible Cities Available from Schott Worldwide
May. 02, 2014

Schott Music is proud to introduce Christopher Cerrone’s landmark chamber opera, Invisible Cities, into its catalogue worldwide. Called “a delicate and beautiful opera [that] could be, and should be, done anywhere” (Mark Swed, The Los Angeles Times), Invisible Cities was recently named a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
The economical orchestration of eight voices, chamber orchestra, and electronics embodies Cerrone’s signature “lyrical and rigorous” aesthetic (LA Weekly). In 2013, Cerrone joined forces with the intrepid Los Angeles opera company The Industry and LA Dance Project to reimagine the piece as an immersive site-specific presentation at LA’s historic Union Station. The piece premiered in the fall of 2013, garnering a sensational response from audience and critics alike throughout the two week run.
Cerrone and director Yuval Sharon envisioned an operatic experience far removed from a typical staged concert where the audience would move fluidly throughout the space during the performance. To accomplish this ambitious project, the audience was fitted with headphones through which the ensemble, choir, and singers can be heard, unbeknownst to passersby in the busy train station. The result is an exhilarating synthesis of music, dance, and theater with the public sphere as the stage; a unique contribution to the operatic canon that has been hailed as opera of the future.
Hire, sales and perusal material for Invisible Cities will be available soon from Schott Music worldwide.
