Douglas J. Cuomo at Carnegie Hall's Transient Glory

Douglas J. Cuomo’s new choral work, How To Survive in the Woods, sees its premiere at the Carnegie Hall Choral Institutes’s Transient Glory performance on Saturday, February 18 in Zankel Hall. This performance is the grand finale of a three-day symposium in which eight conducting fellows selected from across the country will work with the Young People’s Chorus of New York Artistic Director and 2011 MacArthur Fellow Francisco J. Núñez. Presented by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute in partnership with the YPC, the concert also features members of the JACK Quartet performing Cuomo’s A Far Playground for viola and piano, Michael Gordon’s Exalted and the “Scherzo” from John Corigliano’s String Quartet No. 1. WNYC radio personality John Schaefer will also engage the composers in insightful dialogue including interviews with John Corigliano and Douglas J. Cuomo.

During the Transient Glory Symposium—part of the Weill Music Institute's newly established Carnegie Hall Choral Institute—the conducting fellows, joined by eight associates and 60 auditors, explore several recently-composed works for young voices including Cuomo’s Fortune, composed in 2007 for the YPC, which is also featured on the February 18 concert program. Works by Derek Bermel, John Corigliano, David Del Tredici, Paquito D’Rivera, Michael Gordon, Bright Sheng, and Joan Tower are also featured.
