Feb. 29, 2012
The Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic performs Bernard Rands’ Danza Petrificada on March 31 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at Carnegie Hall on April 2. The performances of Danza Petrificada, which Rands wrote on commission from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2010 to honor Riccardo Muti's innaugural season, will be conducted by Ronald Zollmann. Rands gave a video interview about the work for the CSO, which can be viewed here.
In addition, Rands’ Ceremonial is performed by the United States Army Band, conducted by Gerard Schwarz, on March 11 at the Strathmore Concert Hall in Bethesda, MD. The concert honors the 90th anniversary of the Army Band, which was founded in 1922 by General John J. Pershing, earning the group the title “Pershing’s Own.” The concert will be live streamed on the Army Band’s website, www.usarmyband.com
