Berio, Dutilleux, Pärt and Takemitsu Featured at Keys to the Future Festival
Nov. 01, 2006
Luciano Berio’s Brin, Henri Dutilleux’s Le jeu des contraires, Arvo Pärt’s Für Alina and Toru Takemitsu’s Rain Tree Sketches II are among the works featured at the second annual Keys to the Future Festival. The festival runs November 7–9 at Greenwich House’s Renee Weiler Concert Hall in New York City. Each night presents an hour-long recital of contemporary piano works. Artistic Director Joseph Rubinstein—who also performs at the festival and whose works appear on the program—comments on the Pärt and Berio works:
“I’m very happy to be including works by two late twentieth century masters: Arvo Pärt and Luciano Berio. Pärt’s Für Alina…has a haunting simplicity and casts a spell as events unfold slowly in time. Berio’s Brin…is similarly enchanting…and the piece has a seductive delicacy…The inclusion of these two works typifies the diversity that I am trying to bring to the Keys to the Future festival.”
Such diversity is readily apparent in the festival’s programming. In addition to Berio, Dutilleux, Pärt and Takemitsu, the program includes works spanning jazz, classical, and even Christopher O’Riley’s adaptions of Radiohead works.
