Beat Furrer's Litanei Premieres in Ireland at the “Coming Together” Festival of the Louth Contemporary Music Society
May. 28, 2026
The Renaissance poet and musician Gaspara Stampa encounters Ingeborg Bachmann across a distance of four centuries, transcending linguistic and temporal boundaries. Out of texts from the writer’s literary estate dedicated to Stampa, Beat Furrer created the basis for Litanei, his new work for soprano, clarinet and string quartet. The work will be premiered on June 19 at the “Coming Together” Festival of the Louth Contemporary Music Society in Dundalk, Ireland. Beat Furrer focuses on creating a “dialogue of different characters, alternating between recitative-like closeness to the spoken sound of language and arioso embeddedness in the instrumental sound – on the threshold of wordlessness, the cry of despair, revolt and resignation.” In addition to the premiere of Litanei, the Festival will present performances of Furrer’s chamber music works, including canti della tenebra, in mia vita da vuolp, Lotófagos, and Prophezeiungen in Dundalk on June 19 at St Nicholas’ Church of Ireland and on June 20 at St. Vincent’s Chapel.
