Music of Robert Beaser in Austin and Grand Rapids

The music of Robert Beaser sees several US performances in March 2012, including at the University of Texas-Austin and in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On March 23, Beaser’s Manhattan Roll, in the recently new version for concert band, is performed at UT-Austin by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble conducted by Jerry Junkin. March 30 sees another Beaser work performed at the school, this time his Songs from the Occasions for tenor and ensemble, performed by the University of Texas at Austin New Music Ensemble at Bates Recital Hall.

On March 23, Beaser’s Folk Songs makes its way to the Grand Rapids Symphony, conducted by David Lockington, alongside works by Adam Schönberg, Manuel de Falla, and Sergei Prokoviev. Music critic Loren Tice wrote of a recent performance of Folks Songs:

So often, a modern classical composer has a work performed and it's "one and done." Not so with this work, I predict. Rarely do I hear a work so fresh that as soon as I hear it, I want to hear it again right away.
