BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Makes World Premiere Recording of Nikolai Roslawez's Violin Concerto No. 2

Jan. 08, 2008

This month the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra embarks on the world premiere recording of Nikolai Roslawez's Violin Concerto No. 2. The recording, featuring conductor Ilan Volkov and violinist Alina Ibragimova, reflects the recent resurgence of Roslawez's music after being forced into near oblivion by censorship enacted by the Soviet regime. In his lifetime Roslawez was eventually banned from publishing or performing his works and, as a result, many of his works were considered lost following his death in 1944. After extensive archival research the music of Roslawez is being widely published and performed for the first time including this violin concerto, which still awaits its world premiere live performance. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra recording is to be released on the Hyperion label.
