Australian Premiere of Arvo Pärt’s Swansong
Jun. 06, 2018

On June 22, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, led by Arvo Volmer, presents the Australian premiere of Arvo Pärt’s Swansong at the Adelaide Town Hall. The concert titled “Beyond Pictures - Master Series 4” will also feature works by Rachmaninoff, Sibelius, and Vladimir Ashkenazy’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
Swansong, originally Littlemore Tractus for chorus and organ, was written to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of theologian/poet John Henry Newman. This version for orchestra was commissioned for Salzburg Mozart Week 2014.
