Arvo Pärt Appointed Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2025-26 Season
Feb. 27, 2025
We are delighted to announce that Arvo Pärt has been appointed Debs Composer's Chair for the 2025-26 season. In bestowing this position, Carnegie Hall noted:
"Artists and audiences from around the world join us in celebrating Arvo Pärt in his 90th year. As a composer, Pärt has changed the course of music—both within and beyond the classical sphere. Profound, powerful, and beloved worldwide, his work transcends time and space, taking us beyond everyday existence into another realm. The Estonian Festival Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi, joined by violinists Midori and Hans Christian Aavik, composer-pianist Nico Muhly, and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, launch the celebration with a program that traces Pärt’s extraordinary musical evolution. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir performs an all-Pärt program of choral masterworks in Zankel Hall, featuring the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Tõnu Kaljuste. Additional highlights include a tribute led by violinist Gidon Kremer, plus selected works performed by the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer; The Knights; cellist Nicolas Altstaedt and lutenist Thomas Dunford; and a concert by Ensemble Connect."
