Arvo Pärt and Wolfgang Rihm Awarded German Music Author Prizes in Berlin

On March 14, Arvo Pärt was awarded the German Music Author Award 2019 in the category of Choral Music. Astrid Koblanck, the CEO of Universal Edition, accepted the prize on behalf of Arvo Pärt who was absent due to illness. The Estonian ambassador in Berlin, Mart Laanemäe, delivered the laudatory speech.

In addition, Wolfgang Rihm was awarded the German Music Author Prize 2019 for his life's work. The laudation was given by Winrich Hopp. The jury of the Deutscher Musikautorenpreis noted: "Wolfgang Rihm is the 'enfant terrible of our time' in the best sense of the word. He has managed to find his own language with his compositions in a world as immense as today's."
