Aribert Reimann Awarded Ernst von Siemens Prize

Aribert Reimann is the recipient of the 2011 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. This prestigious award will be presented to Reimann by the President of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste (Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts) in a musical ceremony at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich on May 24, 2011. Music critic Stephan Mösch will introduce Reimann, after which soprano Anna Prohaska performs Reimann’s trio …ni una sombra together with clarinetist Jörg Widmann, and pianist Axel Bauni.
The Ernst von Siemens Music Prize is accompanied by a cash award of €200,000 and is given to a composer, performer, or musicologist who has made a distinguished contribution to the world of music. The Foundation additionally awards encouragement prizes to young composers and supports over 100 contemporary music projects in over twenty countries throughout the world.
Reimann’s 2009 opera, Medea, is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray from Arthaus Musik. This new release was recorded at the work’s premiere on February 28, 2010, at the Vienna State Opera and features Marlis Petersen, Elisabeth Kulman, Michael Roider, Max Emanuel Cencic, and Michael Boder.
