Argento Ensemble Performs Works by Georg Friedrich Haas and Beat Furrer at New York City's Symphony Space

Oct. 01, 2008

The Argento Ensemble performs Georg Friedrich Haas' De Terrae Fineand Beat Furrer's Gaspra on October 27, in a concert presented by the Austrian Cultural Forum. These two works join other avant-garde Austrian compositions as a preview of 2009's Moving Sounds Festival, held at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia. De Terrae Fine, performed by solo violinist Miranda Cuckson, is one of Haas' more recent works, exploring microtonal possibilities of the instrument's different registers. Furrer's Gaspra, for septet, composed 13 years earlier, marks the composer's first explorations of steady meter and synchronicity between different voices. The Argento Ensemble, under music director Michel Galante will perform Gaspra again in Jakarta, Indonesia in November of this year.
