Andrew Norman's Try with Los Angeles Philharmonic and Oberlin Conservatory

Nov. 26, 2013

Andrew Norman's Try with Los Angeles Philharmonic and Oberlin Conservatory

John Adams leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance of Andrew Norman’s Try for chamber orchestra on December 3 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was this ensemble and conductor that premiered the work in 2011, which was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, Gustavo Dudamel, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Norman’s work has been cited in The New York Times for its “daring juxtapositions and dazzling colors” and in the Los Angeles Times for its “Chaplinesque” wit. His Try is a prime example of these characteristics.

Later this month, Timothy Weiss leads the Oberlin Conservatory Contemporary Music Ensemble in a performance of the work at the Warner Concert Hall in Oberlin, OH. This concert, which takes place on December 13, also features the US premiere of Kenneth Hesketh’s Detail from the Record for chamber orchestra.
