Andrew Norman's Bridging with Jennifer Koh and Shai Wosner; Switch at Carnegie Hall

Apr. 01, 2016

Andrew Norman's Bridging with Jennifer Koh and Shai Wosner; Switch at Carnegie Hall

On April 7, violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Shai Wosner give the New York premiere of Andrew Norman’s Bridging at the 92nd Street Y as part of Koh's “Bridge to Beethoven” commissioning project. Koh and Wosner gave the world premiere of Bridging on March 26 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, CA.

For her performances, Koh has interspersed the three movements of Norman’s Bridging between Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas No. 1, 2 and 3, acting as “bridges” between each sonata. Norman elaborates on the project:

Jennifer and Shai are really thinking about what Beethoven means – not only in his own time, but what his work might mean for us today and I am interested in all of those questions myself… this project is a perfect uniting of those things and it’s a chance for me to really think about a specific idea about a certain kind of music making and how I relate to that.

Also this month, Thierry Fischer and The Utah Symphony join forces once again with percussionist Colin Currie for the New York premiere of Norman’s percussion concerto Switch. The performance takes place on April 29 at Carnegie Hall. On April 27, conductor Hugh Wolff leads the NEC Philharmonia in a performance of Norman’s short 2005 orchestral work Drip Blip Sparkle Spin Glint Glide Glow Float Flop Chop Pop Shatter Splash.
