All-Night Performance of Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet
Apr. 01, 2019
On April 12, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Tate Modern Performance presents a 12-hour performance of Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet. Praised by The Guardian as ‘one of the 20th-century’s great musical works’, this special performance will feature people who have experienced homelessness singing alongside the composer, his ensemble, musicians from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and members of the Southbank Sinfonia. Bryars notes:
"It is 48 years since I first heard the fragment of religious song that is the basis of my piece and I still hear new things and continue to be touched by its beautifully musical qualities as well as the dignity, faith and humanity of the homeless old man who sang it."
