Alan Shulman's A Laurentian Overture in New Edition at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
Jan. 05, 2016

On January 7 and 10, Joseph Young leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in the first performances of the newly engraved performing edition of Alan Shulman’s A Laurentian Overture. The Baltimore Symphony’s performances take place at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall (Jan 7) and the Strathmore Music Center (Jan 10).
A Laurentian Overture, one of Shulman’s most frequently performed works, was premiered in 1952 with Guido Cantelli conducting the New York Philharmonic. Coinciding with the new performing edition, Pristine Classical Records has released a newly-remastered recording of A Laurentian Overture. The album features an historic 1952 performance by the NBC Symphony Orchestra, with whom Shulman was a cellist, led by Cantelli.
Details on the performance can be found at bsomusic.org.
