Agata Zubel's Chapter 13 Debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic

On January 19 the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs the world premiere of Chapter 13, a new work by acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Agata Zubel. Commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the 9-minute work for soprano and ensemble is inspired by the 13th chapter of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel “The Little Prince.” Lukasz Borowicz conducts the premiere with Zubel as soprano soloist.

Chapter 13 is one of several premieres for Zubel this year. Ensemble Intercontemporain premieres a new work for ensemble and electronics in May, and in October the Seattle Symphony gives the premiere of a newly commissioned work.

In an evening replete with music by contemporary Polish composers, The Los Angeles Philharmonic also performs the national premiere of Paweł Mykietyn’s 3 for 13. This work, commissioned by Polish Radio in 1995, earned Mykietyn first place in the under 30 category at UNESCO’s International Composers Rostrum in Paris.
