A Summer of Weill – The Music of Kurt Weill in Brevard, Dresden, Santa Fe and Beyond

Brevard Music Center’s Kurt Weill celebration continues with performances throughout July when the Brevard Festival Orchestra performs The Seven Deadly Sins and selections from Weill’s Broadway shows (July 12), with Lisa Vroman as soloist and conducted by Keith Lockhart.

Other highlights include a Weill/Brecht/Blitzstein cabaret evening, titled “Change the World, It Needs It,” starring Vroman and William Sharp (July 6); an all-Weill chamber concert (July 10); a scholarly symposium (July 10-12); and Kleine Dreigroschenmusik performed by the Brevard Symphonic Winds, conducted by Kraig Alan Williams (August 4). The Festival’s Janiec Opera Company presents two fully staged performances of Street Scene, directed by Dean Anthony and conducted by Robert Moody (July 27 and 29).

Conductor Lahav Shani continues to champion Symphony No. 2, with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden (July 7), and two performances with the Rotterdam Philharmonic at the Concertgebouw (August 16) and in Rotterdam (August 22). Violinist and conductor John Storgårds performs the Violin Concerto with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival (August 14), and Marcelo Lombardero’s production of Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny takes the stage at the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, for five performances August 22-29.
