World Premiere of Pierre Jalbert's <em>Ultraviolet</em>

On May 19, the Hoff-Barthelson School presents the premiere of Pierre Jalbert's new work for ensemble, Ultraviolet, in Scarsdale, NY. Performed by Jered McInerney, violin; Emma Berry, clarinet; Issei Herr, cello; Charlotte Hill, piano, the work is performed as part of the school's 24th annual Festival of Contemporary Music. Jalbert writes:

Ultraviolet was written for the Hoff-Barthelson Music School under the auspices of the Copland House. The title refers to that light, beyond violet, beyond the visible spectrum for humans. We can't see it with the naked eye, but we can certainly feel its effects. Music, in its own way, seems to me to inhabit a similar world. We can't see it, yet it certainly can have profound effects upon us. In this piece, the music moves from the mysterious to the intense, and back again, creating an arch-like form.

The premiere performance marks only the most recent in a run of performances of Jalbert's music around the country this season. Other recent performances include the world premiere of Fanfare Da Camera by Da Camera of Houston, Elegy with the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Autumn Rhapsody with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and the Stamford Symphony.
