Weill and Brecht's Mahagonny and Seven Deadly Sins in Repertory at Komische Oper Berlin

May. 30, 2012

Weill and Brecht's Mahagonny and Seven Deadly Sins in Repertory at Komische Oper Berlin

Two major Weill-Brecht stage works appear in repertory this month at Komische Oper Berlin. Andreas Homoki’s 2006 production of Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny is being revived for five performances (June 2, 7, 11, 23, 30), conducted by Martin Hoff. Kor-Jan Dusseljee returns to play Jimmy Mahoney and Noemi Nadelmann performs her third Jenny this season, with previous Mahagonny engagements at Vlaamse Opera and Israeli Opera. On other nights (June 9, 13; July 2), Dagmar Manzel continues her tour-de-force performances of Die sieben Todsünden, paired with seven songs by Weill, conducted by Kristiina Poska and directed by Komische Oper Intendant, Barrie Kosky.

Both productions will return in 2013 during the Komische Oper’s “Weill Week” (January 18-24), along with a concert performance of Weill’s satirical operetta Der Kuhhandel (1934) and evenings of Weill’s chamber music and songs.
