Music of Stephen Paulus in the US and Abroad

The music of Stephen Paulus is heard on both sides of the Atlantic this month, as the Schola Cantorum of Texas performs Whitman’s Dream for chorus and brass ensemble, and his orchestral work Spectra sees a performance by the Magdeburg Philharmonic in Germany with conductor Kimbo Ishii-Eto.

Spectra was premiered by the Houston Symphony under the direction of C. William Harwood in April of 1980. The piece was commissioned through a National Endowment for the Arts Composer Fellowship and marked the composer’s first orchestral commission. Paulus has since composed over 50 orchestral works for leading ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Minnesota Orchestras and many others.
