Lei Liang Welcomed as Guest Composer at Tokyo’s Toho Gakuen School of Music

Lei Liang served as Guest Composer at Japan’s premiere music school Toho Gakuen in Tokyo this month. During his visit, Liang conducted several post-graduate composition masterclasses, lectures, public rehearsals and coaching sessions in the performance of his works. In addition, his pieces My Windows, for solo piano, Trio, for cello, piano and percussion, and In Praise of Shadows for solo flute were given performances at the insitution. The residency was moderated by the Chair of composition at Toho Gakuen, Prof. Masahiro Ishijima, and musicologist, Prof. Yuji Numano.

Liang sees two world premieres of his music in the coming months: Cuatro Corridos, a chamber opera for soprano, guitar, piano and percussion, performed by Susan Narucki, Steven Schick, Aleck Karis and Pablo Gomez at the University of California, San Diego on May 8, 2013; and a new work for orchestra commissioned by the Callithumpian Consort, led by Stephen Drury, at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on February 2.
