Lee Hoiby's <em>I Have A Dream</em> in Seattle

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, King County in Washington presents a special performance of Lee Hoiby’s powerful MLK text setting, I Have A Dream. King County’s 26th Annual MLK Jr. Celebration in downtown Seattle highlights Hoiby’s inspiring piece alongside performances of traditional American hymns and melodies. Mezzo-soprano Cheryse McLeod Lewis, who has championed the work to wide acclaim, appears as soloist. The event takes place January 17 at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle, WA and is free to the public.

Hoiby, a master of American art song and opera, composed his I Have A Dream in 1988. Scored for voice and orchestra, the piece sets Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech of the same name.  I Have A Dream is dedicated to baritone Ben Holt who premiered the work in 1988 at the Mannes College of Music.
