Kenneth Hesketh Featured Artist at Bowdoin International Music Festival

Bowdoin College’s International Music Festival welcomes Schott composer Kenneth Hesketh as Guest Artist this summer. Hesketh will engage with students of the Bowdoin Festival’s summer study program where the composer will also see performances of his Notte oscura for solo piano and A Land So Luminous in a version for violin and piano. The Bowdoin Festival’s artist instructors lead private and group instruction and master classes while collaborating with each other and the students to present more than 80 concerts each season.

A faculty member of the Royal College of Music, Hesketh has been described by Tempo magazine as “...a composer who both has something to say and the means to say it.” He has received numerous national and international commissions from, amongst others, the Fromm Foundation at Harvard University, a Faber Millennium Commission for Birmingham Contemporary Music Group premiered under Sir Simon Rattle, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko, the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Vassily Sinaisky, Hans Werner Henze and the Endymion Ensemble (in honor of Henze's 75th birthday), the Munich Biennale, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Michael Vyner Trust for the London Sinfonietta, The Opera Group, ensemble Psappha and Kissinger Sommer Internationales Musikfestival. Hesketh’s new work for dance, Forms entangled, shapes collided, commissioned by Psappha and Phoenix Dance Theatre (Leeds) through the support of The Royal Philharmonic Society Drummond Fund, tours nationally in 2013.

On Hesketh’s new album, Theatre of Attractions, the British composer has collaborated with the Psappha ensemble to produce an inspired and diverse record of his chamber music. The new disc features his Dei Destini Incrociati for six players, Aphorisms for solo clarinet, Fra Duri Scogli for six players, Three Pieces in the Shape of a Shoe for oboe, bassoon and piano, and Theatre of Attractions for ensemble.
