Georg Friedrich Haas' Newest Work for Orchestra at the Klangspuren Festival
Aug. 29, 2012

For the past 18 years, music lovers have gathered in the Austrian Alps each September to hear the most cutting edge of what the contemporary music world has to offer at the Klangspuren Festival of Contemporary Music. This year, to celebrate the opening of its new concert hall, the festival features the world premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’ Tetraedrite on September 13. Commissioned by the city of Schwaz, the 14-minute work for full orchestra is performed by the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck, conducted by Wen-Pin Chien. Stateside, Kevin Stahlheim and the Milwaukee-based new music mainstay Present Music featured Haas’ Tria ex uno for flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin and cello in a recent concert on September 1.
The September performances kick off a busy year for Haas' music in the US, which includes performances at Northeastern University in Boston, a US premiere at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a performance of in vain by the Chicago-based Dal Niente ensemble.
