BBC Concert Orchestra Performs Music of Howard Shore in London

The music of Howard Shore plays an integral role in the BBC Concert Orchestra’s upcoming program London on Film on June 11. The evening promises a snap shot of cinematic history with performances of classic scores from films that utilize the city of London as backdrop. Shore’s Concertino, from the score to the 2007 David Cronenberg film Eastern Promises, is performed by Robert Ziegler and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s South Bank Centre. Howard Shore's score to Eastern Promises, a crime-thriller set in East London, draws on Russian folk music and the tattoo art of the Russian mafia. The work is performed alongside scores both vintage and contemporary from Bernard Herrmann (Hangover Square, 1945), John Barry (The Ipcress File, 1965), Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, 2010), Pete Townshend (Quadrophenia, 1979), Burt Bacharach (Alfie, 1966) and Hans Zimmer (Sherlock Holmes, 2009).
